Fire Prevention and Education: (Under Construction)
Just a few extra steps could save your life.
The cold weather is upon us, please make sure your smoke detectors are
working by testing them at least once a month, replace the batteries at least
twice a year. It is recommended that you change your batteries the same time you
change your clocks for daylight savings.
Have furnaces and other heating appliances checked by qualified personnel as
recommended by the manufacturers instructions.
Chimneys inspected and cleaned, contact your local chimney sweeper for
cleaning frequency.
Fire Extinguishers accessible and in working order. Know how to use them and
know the different types needed in your home.
In home fire drills, Everyone in your home should be familiar with escape
routes and where to meet outside of the home in the event of a fire. DON'T BE
AFRAID TO PRACTICE THIS! Keep all escape routes clear at all times. In the event
of smoke or fire in the home stay low and call 911 as soon as possible. Do not
re-enter the home until cleared by the fire department.
Carbon Monoxide Detectors. These should also be installed according to
manufactures instructions, especially if you use natural gas appliances.
Keep Portable heaters away from flammable material, establish a safe zone
around these items and keep children and pets away from them. Follow the
manufacturers instructions regarding these items.
Portable Kerosene Heaters, FILL THEM OUTSIDE AFTER THEY HAVE COOLED. Do not
store Kerosene in the home.
Do not overload electrical circuits and keep extension cords out of the
walkways.
Christmas will be upon us soon, Keep live trees watered and inspect all
lighting decorations prior to installing them. Be Safe and Happy Holidays.
